The University of the West Indies (UWI) Arts Steel presents Showcase: Dancing on Steel – A Live Recording for PASIC 2024. The concert and live recording takes place at the historic Queen’s Hall on Sunday September 15, 2024 at 6 pm and will close off the twentieth anniversary celebrations of the UWI Arts Steel.
Jessel Murray, Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Creative and Festival Arts, will conduct Dr.Jeannine Remy’s celebrated work Dancing on Steel, performed with the UWI Arts Festival Dance Ensemble and augmented by guest performers. Dancing on Steel was accepted as a 60-minute film to be screened at the prestigious Percussive Arts Society International Conference (PASIC) in November 2024. PASIC is billed as the world’s largest gathering of percussionists. Patrons are invited to be a part of this historic production which also includes other original works for steel orchestra conducted by UWI Lecturer KhionDe Las.
This performance of Showcase: Dancing on Steel – A LiveRecording for PASIC 2024 promises to be an unforgettable experience for audiences of all ages and continues the celebration of the steelpan as our national instrument! Join us for an evening of exciting musicmaking. Be a part of this historic occasion! Tickets are available at the Queen’s Hall — General admission is $200. Specially priced tickets for UWI Alumni/Students are available from the Department of Creative and Festival Arts (DCFA) at the UWI-Republic Bank Department of Creative and Festival Arts building at Cheesman Avenue, St. Augustine and from members of the participating ensembles.
